What is Botox Injection?
Botox injection is a treatment that involves injecting botulinum toxin, a protein derived from Clostridium botulinum bacteria, into the muscles. This toxin inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle movement.
By temporarily paralyzing targeted muscles, Botox injections can reduce the prominence of areas such as the jawline or calves, smooth out facial wrinkles caused by muscle activity, alleviate shoulder tension, and even suppress excessive sweating in areas like the underarms.
Recommended for the Following Concerns
- Concerned about crow's feet.
- Forehead or frown lines that bother you.
- Want to refine your facial contours.
- Desire a subtle lift in the corners of the mouth.
- Suffering from shoulder tension or stiffness.
- Excessive underarm sweating or hyperhidrosis.
Treatment Features
Botox injections may involve slight pinching sensations, but you can return to your daily routine immediately after the procedure.
-
- Scalp
- Reduces sweat and oil production on the scalp. Typically, around 160 units are injected across the entire scalp. The process involves shallow, numerous injections and can be quite painful.
-
- Forehead
- To prevent wrinkles, about 16 units are injected into the frontalis muscle to inhibit movement. To avoid heavy eyelids, injections near the eyebrows are minimized. For a smoother appearance, up to 20 units can be injected superficially for subtle movement reduction and enhanced skin texture.
-
- Glabella (between the brows)
- Prevents furrowing of brows to avoid frown lines, with 12 to 20 units typically used.
-
- Nasoglabellar Lines (nose root)
- Addresses horizontal lines between the eyes with approximately 8 units.
-
- Bunny Lines (nose)
- Targets vertical or diagonal lines on the nose with 8 to 16 units.
-
- Temporalis Muscle
- Reduces the width of the head by thinning the temporalis muscles, which are used for chewing. Around 40 units are recommended.
-
- Crow's Feet
- Inhibits the orbicularis oculi muscle to prevent smile-induced lines near the eyes. Typically, 12 to 20 units are used, leaving cheek movement unaffected.
-
- Under-Eye Lines
- Reduces lines below the eyes by targeting the orbicularis oculi muscle with about 8 units. Cheek movement is preserved to avoid hindering smiles.
-
- Nasal Flaring
- Prevents nostrils from flaring when smiling or speaking with 4 to 8 units.
-
- Gummy Smile
- Reduces upper gum exposure when smiling by injecting about 8 units into the levator labii superioris.
-
- Nasolabial Lines (smile lines)
- Improves smile lines by targeting the same muscle involved in gummy smile treatment, with about 4 units.
-
- Upper Lip Lines
- Reduces vertical lines on the upper lip with 8 units, though this may affect the ability to use straws or slurp noodles.
-
- Chin
- Smooths dimpling caused by the mentalis muscle, using 12 to 20 units.
-
- Masseter (jaw muscle)
- Slims the jawline by shrinking the masseter muscle with 40 to 80 units. May cause sagging if excessive volume is lost, especially in patients over 30.
-
- Neck
- Relaxes the platysma muscle to improve sagging and enhance the jawline. Typically requires 40 units.
-
- Skin Botox
- Targets the skin surface to reduce oil and sweat production, smooth texture, and enhance radiance, using around 40 units.
-
- Underarms, Palms, Soles, and More
- Treats excessive sweating in various areas. Unit usage varies by site:
Underarms: 60–120 units
Palms: 80 units (painful)
Soles: 120 units
- Downtime & Precautions
- Rarely, bruising may occur at injection sites.
