I went to Shin-Okubo to eat Korean food.
My daughter made some Korean friends while in Australia, which sparked her interest in Korea.
She has learned three Korean words: Annyeong (Good morning), Annyeonghaseyo (Hello), and Andwe (No), and she regularly shows off her knowledge—about once a week.
I thought, “After language, the next step is food culture!” So, we decided to experience Korean cuisine.
We tried sannakji (live octopus), ganjang gejang (soy sauce-marinated crab), ganjang saeu (soy sauce-marinated shrimp), and bibimbap. The sannakji was quite a shock for her.
They got really excited watching the octopus legs squirming around. They took turns squeezing lemon juice on them and enjoyed watching them move even more.
Since my kids love seafood, they enjoyed everything and finished a portion meant for two adults in no time.
I hope they continue to experience different cultures around the world and grow into open-minded individuals.
