Differences Between the Effects of Ultherapy and Volumnema
Basic Knowledge and Effects of Ultherapy
Ultherapy is a type of HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and was the first to be developed.
By focusing energy within the skin, it achieves a lifting effect.
The treatment layers are typically at depths of 4.5mm, 3mm, and 2mm, which target the SMAS fascia, subcutaneous fat layer, and deep dermis respectively.
Because heat is applied in points, the tightening effect is mild, while the lifting effect is strong.
Ultherapy features an ultrasound imaging system, which allows for precise targeting during treatment.
Basic Knowledge and Effects of Volumnema
Volumnema is a type of RF (Radiofrequency) machine, created to mimic Thermage.
It applies heat from the surface of the skin down to the subcutaneous fat layer, producing a tightening effect.
The handpiece’s head is rounded, which reduces pain and minimizes risk.
Comparison of the Effects of Ultherapy and Volumnema
Ultherapy focuses on lifting, while Volumnema primarily provides tightening.
Ultherapy is more effective around the jawline, and Volumnema works best on the midface. Ideally, both treatments would be performed together.
When combining both treatments, Ultherapy should be done at the 4.5mm depth only.
Treatment Process and Duration of Ultherapy and Volumnema
Treatment Flow and Time Requirement
The treatment process for both Ultherapy and Volumnema is similar.
First, a facial cleansing is done, and then a gel is applied before the procedure. For Volumnema, electrodes are placed on the lower back.
After the treatment, the gel is removed, and skincare is applied.
Treatment typically takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the number of shots and treated areas.
Differences in the Machines Used
Ultherapy uses HIFU, while Volumnema uses RF.
Both machines apply heat to the skin, but in different ways.
HIFU applies heat in a focused, point-like manner, whereas Volumnema applies heat evenly across the treatment area.
Clinic Environment for Treatment
Both Ultherapy and Volumnema are typically administered by nurses.
These are non-invasive treatments in a relaxed environment, similar to a spa or aesthetic treatment room. There’s no need to worry about a sterile operating room setting.
Pain and Side Effects of Ultherapy and Volumnema
Pain Level During Treatment
Ultherapy causes significant pain.
It has a deep, throbbing pain similar to dental treatments, and the intensity can be strong.
If the pain becomes unbearable, the output can be reduced, or another HIFU machine may be considered.
Volumnema, on the other hand, is much less painful and is generally described as feeling warm.
Risks of Side Effects and How to Address Them
The primary side effect is burns.
In case of a burn, apply steroid cream and ensure proper moisturization.
Duration of Treatment Effects with Ultherapy and Volumnema
Time to Experience Effects
Both treatments provide a sense of tightening immediately after the procedure.
However, some swelling may occur afterward, and a slightly puffy feeling can persist.
It usually takes about 2 to 3 months for collagen to regenerate, and the effects become more noticeable during this time.
Duration of Treatment Effects
The collagen generated by the treatments is your own, so the results last a long time.
However, as aging progresses, sagging may reoccur, so it is recommended to undergo treatments every 6 months to maintain the results.
Factors Contributing to Perceived Effects
The immediate tight feeling is due to the heat stimulation.
The lifting and tightening effects felt 2 to 3 months later are a result of collagen production.
Cost Comparison of Ultherapy and Volumnema
Estimated Cost of Treatment
As these are self-pay treatments, prices are set independently by each clinic.
In our clinic, Volumnema is priced at ¥90,000 for 300 shots and ¥150,000 for 600 shots.
Possibility of Insurance Coverage and Its Scope
Insurance does not cover these treatments.
These are considered elective procedures and are self-pay.
